This conference is designed for ECMO specialists, neonatal, pediatric, cardiac and adult critical care physicians, pediatric and adult surgeons, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and perfusionists. The curriculum is designed to provide interactive education for health care providers who care for patients receiving extracorporeal support.

Conference Goals

The conference will focus on management and novel trends in the management of neonates, children and adults with respiratory and cardiac failure organized around the following themes:

  • Safety
  • eCPR
  • Respiratory needs
  • Ethics
  • Cardiac/VAD Support
  • Back to Basics - ECMO Management 101
  • ECMO Challenges for the Future
  • Program specific needs (staffing, circuitry, training and simulation)

Conference Objectives

  • Identify management strategies for the adult ECLS patient
  • Discuss medical and surgical management of pediatric cardiac patients
  • Identify current and future challenges of ECLS
  • Incorporate safety principles in their ECLS program
  • Discuss components of a successful ECLS program

Cincinnati Reds baseball game

All conference attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a ticket ($26) to attend a Cincinnati Reds baseball game on Friday, June 3rd.  The Reds will play the Washington Nationals.  Following the game will be a fireworks show in the stadium.  Please note, Great American Ball Park is 4 city blocks from the conference hotel, therefore, we will not be providing transportation to the game. Physicians:  Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.

Nurses: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (OH-046/9-1-18) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN-001-91), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

 Respiratory Therapists:  Application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists.

Perfusion:  The American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion has approved this activity to receive 18.2 CEUs.
