Overview


Breast milk is the optimal nutrition for the infant and has many health benefits for both baby and mother.  The advantages to breastfeeding extend past the nutritional aspect, and range from psychological, environmental, and socioeconomic.  Pediatricians should be well-versed in supporting breastfeeding infants and their mothers from the newborn period and beyond.  The Cincinnati Pediatric Society presents "Breastfeeding Saves Lives: The Pediatrician's Role" to identify the most pressing challenges to breastfeeding for patients and the solutions that pediatricians can utilize to overcome these barriers.  Explore the following topics related to breastfeeding:

Objectives
  1. Review of breastfeeding data to recognize and address inequities
  2. Discuss the most common obstacles to breastfeeding and reasons for referral
  3. Identify community resources that provide breastfeeding support

In support of improving patient care, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. Specific accreditation information will be provided for each activity.

CME:  Cincinnati Children’s designates this live activity for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This activity is designed for the additional hours required for APRNs with prescriptive authority in Ohio.

ABP MOC Part 2:  Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the activity and individual assessment of and feedback to the learner, enables the learner to earn MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Cincinnati Children’s will upload all points earned January 1 – October 31 in the year in which they were earned. Points earned on or after November 1st will be uploaded to the ABP the following calendar year.
