This program is designed for school nurses to enhance knowledge and skill in pharmacologic management and self-management of care for the student with diabetes in the school setting.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the impact of psychosocial issues related to the management of a child with diabetes.
  2. Provide practical tips for the management of the student with diabetes
  3. Discuss the basic components of insulin pump therapy for diabetes management at school.
  4. Discuss the nutritional management of the student with diabetes and the determination of bolus calculations
  5. Discuss the importance of monitoring blood glucose and ketones at school and considerations for the school nurse
  6. Describe key components of proper administration of insulin via an insulin pen and glucagon via an emergency kit
