Join us as we explore the vital role of primary care physicians in addressing disparities in breastfeeding. This lecture will highlight the importance of listening to community voices and offer practical tools that will empower providers to better support and advocate for families in their practices to achieve their breastfeeding goals.

Objectives: After this session, the learner will be able to:

• Compare Cincinnati-area breastfeeding initiation and exclusivity rates to statewide and national benchmarks, and identify at least two high-risk sub-populations requiring intensified support.

• Explain how social determinants (e.g., hospital practices, paid-leave gaps, commercial milk formula marketing, etc.) contribute to documented breastfeeding disparities, and cite at least three evidence-based interventions that narrow those gaps.

• Implement a pediatric office toolkit—comprising culturally tailored anticipatory guidance, human-milk prescription/referral pathways (lactation consultants, donor-milk access), and follow-up protocols for improving breastfeeding duration and exclusivity among underserved Cincinnati families.
