Overview
Welcome to the 3rd annual conference, “Family Centered Approach for Children of Addicted Parents”, presented by the Collaborative for Children of Addicted Parents, GLAD House, and Cincinnati Children’s.  This year’s conference will focus on medical and neurodevelopmental issues, childcare, preschool and school issues, family placement, protective services and court involvement, and prevention measures through a family centered approach.  Through these discussions, we hope as a community to support the family structure (biological or other) for every child affected by parental addiction, thereby, halting the intergenerational cycle of addiction.

Objectives
  1. Discuss the neurodevelopmental outcomes of in utero opioid exposure
  2. Discuss the psychosocial and mental health aspects of living with parents affected by a substance use disorder
  3. Discuss the educational issues of children affected by parental substance use disorder
  4. Describe the fundamental components of the integration of Children’s Services and the court system as it relates to cases of child neglect and/or abuse.
  5. Identify when (and what) interventions are appropriate for children impacted by addiction.

Accreditation

Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Cincinnati Children’s and GLAD House. Cincinnati Children’s is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Cincinnati Children’s designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ABP MOC Part 2:  Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn 3.0 MOC points in the American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit.

Nurses:  6.3 Contact hours will be awarded to nurses who attend the entire program and complete an evaluation tool. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Social Work: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center – Social Services is an approved provider of Social Work continuing education by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. PROVIDER NUMBER: RSX069302. This workshop is approved for 6.25 Social Work clock hours. Social Work Program Area: Human Development and Behavior.

Clinical Counselor: Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is an approved provider of professional counselor continuing education units, provider number RCX111201.  This conference is pending approval for 6.5 clock hours. Counselor program area: Methods of Intervention and Prevention.

Teachers (LPDC): 7 Contact Hours of Educator Credit are provided.  Final approval of Certificates of Participation will be determined by your Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC).  Keep all Certificates of Participation with your Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP).

Ohio Psychologists: Cincinnati Children’s is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association-CME Program to offer continuing education for psychologists.  Cincinnati Children’s (provider #310833936), maintains responsibility for the program.  This program is approved for 6.25 hours.

Child Life: Child Life Specialists can use a certificate of attendance for CE Credit
